‘Real Housewives of D.C.’: Its About Issues, Not Cat Fights
Celebrities — By admin on July 22, 2010 at 11:37 amBravo’s Real Housewives franchise has gotten a reputation for crazy breakdowns and catfights between the cast members. But, speaking to reporters today, Real Housewives of D.C. cast members Mary Schmidt Amons and Stacie Scott Turner (left) said their new installment would focus more on issues than scandals — although the White House State Dinner crashing of housewife Michaele Salahi and her husband Tarek last fall has dominated the show’s promotions.
“The backdrop of D.C. makes for different stories,” Stacie told Crushable. “There will be different story lines that youve never seen before…and provocative discussions about important issues, political issues,” like gay marriage and the local city council race.
Stacie also revealed that although the women didn’t really know each other before the show, they tended to get along well. During the first few episodes, we’ll see Stacie clash with fellow housewife Catherine Ommanney over President Obama’s policies versus George W. Bush’s policies. “There are times where we just have very strong differences of opinion,” Stacie explained. “Cat is British, so I think her social norms are just different…We clash a lot on those things in the beginning, but have since become very close and shes now one of my favorite cast members.”
And, like so many housewives before them, both Mary and Stacie revealed that their working on books. Mary (right) , a mother of five who focus on philanthropy, said she’s working on a book about “her journey as a woman and a mother,” while Stacie, a real estate agent who started her charity Extra-Ordinary Life for children in foster care since she was adopted out of foster care herself as a baby, is writing a memoir about her quest to find her birth parents. We’ll see Stacie start searching for her birth father on the show, which reminds us a lot of Nene Leakes‘ story line on Real Housewives of Atlanta.
In fact, when asked which women on other Housewives installments they related most to, both Stacie and Mary said Bethenny Frankel. Stacie also said she related to Atlanta’s Lisa Wu-Hartwell, who is also a real estate agent and entrepreneur.
Guess we’ll have to see how everything shakes out when Real Housewives of D.C. premieres August 5. Are you excited about these new housewives? Do you believe that there won’t be the same fighting we’ve seen from other seasons?
